Hi Richard,

The 8 "C" cell battery pack with the standard alkaline batteries will last approximately 3-4 hours due to the fast drop off in voltage on these cells. The motors will stop working when the voltage drops below 12 Vdc. The mount draws about 400 mA continuous. Here is a link to the Energizer "C" battery data sheet showing the discharge rate.

I, and others would recommend you get a rechargeable battery pack. They make some really small, hi-capacity packs now that are pretty reasonable that will last you at least a couple of long sessions.
