Goodfry and Vance

Welcome to the hobby, are you new to the forum?  Glad to hear you are moving out with the pmc8 iexos100. You will find it is a neat mount with lots of capability.

As beginners you might want to read through the posts on the beginners subgroup.  For that matter the forum has topics and discussions on almost anything related to these mounts.  Also for now the beginners subgroup would be a good place to post your questions and comments as you get going.

There are many members who will help you with your questions concerning the iexos.  Please take a read through the terms and conditions for the forum, and remember that the forum is a place to ask/discuss/share topics concerning these specific pmc8 related equipment and techniques.  To assist us, please fill out your signature blocks, including your equipment.

Finally, the internet is a great place to gain general information concerning the hobby, methods and techniques applicable to all mounts and observing.   Also Cloudy Nights is a great resource for you to learn.

Regards
Wes

Hi fellow Ontarian!

I'm currently in Scarborough and I purchased the IEXOS-100 for my Christmas present to myself last year. I started playing around with it in May, and only just started using it in my backyard last week. I'm still learning bit by bit on how it works as I'm not using ASCOM (its literally the mount, tablet and my camera for now) but what small bits I'm learning from it, I'll pass on. I'm going to try to track the moon tomorrow (assuming the clouds stay out of the way) so I can pass along what I've learned from there!

Hopefully someone more experienced than the both of us can enlighten us further!

Clear skies!

Thanks

I have an engineering company giving me a price to make one but if it doesn't work out I will give them a call.

Hi, I’m from the UK too.
Ask Rother Valley Optics (RVO) about their heavy duty pier.
They may well be able to help.

The Indi driver is written and maintained by others.  I know the driver is being revised to improve it .  Among other things the speeds are being addressed.  I believe incorporating those changes is being discussed.

#iEXOS-100 Manual slew speed with INDI #iEXOS-100

Finally got some time to update the mount firmware to the latest version 20A1 and INDI to 1.9.0 yesterday.

One thing I noticed while doing a quick test was that the max manual slew speed was still very slow. I was hoping the new firmware and the latest INDI driver might have sorted this out. Is this something that is being looked into by the developers?

The meridian flip is managed by the ascom client. I think.  At least it could be.

If Nina or apt does a goto after meridian flip the driver just send the mount a point command that the firmware executes in ra and dec.

The driver does not cause a meridian flip if the mount is tracking.  It will just keep tracking, until a goto is asked for.  If the goto is in the other side of the meridian it will flip.

A client could set a direction and rate if it wanted to to cause the mount to flip, running either axis in any order and any rate.

I have found a slew to home usually clears the tripod from just about anywhere

Nice filamentary Nebula! havent come across that one myself. or the elephant trunk for that matter. going after Lagoon nebula. Here's a short:

Re: EXOS-2 PMC-EIGHT pier #EXOS2

This sounds very useful. I have pretty much abandoned meridian flips thanks to collisions. Last night I was tracking the Lagoon Nebula and the transit altitude was around 32 degrees. But while switching sides the telescope pitches up more steeply and sure enough the camera hit the tripod.

Given plate solving for alignment, I may have a workaround which is to track just past the time of transit, park at Polar Home, and from there goto the object now on the other side. The telescope does not point up so much this way.

Which leads me to wonder if there could one day be a software solution. Where is the algorithm for meridian flips contained? In the PMC-Eight firmware, the Ascom driver, Ascom or APT?

Andrew,
I don't see the pier on the Orion site. I only found a Meade pier that was very spendy. Are you talking about the tripod extension? I'm in the process of building a concrete pier with a 1/2 inch aluminum base plate.

The Orion pier will work well with a slight modification with a hack saw to widen the slot and shorten the pin.

Hi all

One last question for now.

I'm in the UK but is there a pier for the EXOS-2 PMC-EIGHT? In the last year I have had a couple of collisions with telescopes hitting the tripod legs.

Do Explore Scientific make one or is there another brand that fits? Maybe it's a case of having to get one made?

Thanks

The Orion 07393 comes in 3 pieces: a top piece that is basically the same as the tripod top (just have to trim the post down a tad). That screwes to a heavy steel tube, which then screws to a bottom plate. That bottom plate can be bolted to your pier leveling plate.
