Re: IEXOS-100 Case Ideas

Nice pictures.  That gives me a better idea. When I got to Harbor Freight.  I’m torn between the two setups, although I’m usually partial to pick-n-pluck stuff.  But I like the roller case for other things too.

Thanks,

Dave

The splash screen is what happens when you press the reboot and show splash screen button

The screen indicates you have an exos2. Is that  true?

If you have and exos 2 you can communicate via wifi in either tcp or udp mode on the pmc8 as the WiFi module does not care which you set

If you have an iexos 100 you must set the comms mode to udp.  This can be done with the configuration manager or the dongle

There is no UFCT or config manager for the iPad you must use the pc for those and to update your firmware.

Please put your equipment in your signature to help us out.

Send the splash screen obtained from the reboot and show splash screen.  It has all the system information

Wes.  Here is the spash screen you requested.  I went into the PMC-8 Configuration MGR. and clicked connect via TCP.  Once that connected the Ipad started working. I have Configuration Mgr. and UFCT on my windows laptop computer.  Can I download them to the IOS Ipad system and if so do I need to go to the Config. Mgr each time I want to use the Ipad to control Explore Stars or will it remember it?  Thank you.

Hi David

I have both the ExosII and Exos 100 mounts. Depending on which scope I am using I place the mount head in a portable Hard Case I purchased from Walmart
The case has (2) smaller storage areas on top plus a large area to store the mount. It is also on wheels and has a pull out bar for walk behind
Sorry I forget the brand but I can tell you one storage area is clear and there is a large silver knob in the center to unlock the bins

Hi all,

I received my iEXOS-100 the other day and wish to keep everything portable, protected, and in the same place.

Do any of you have ideas about a case (excluding the tripod) or tell me how y'all store your mounts.

Thanks,

Dave

Explore Stars WIFI not working

wayne archard

I bought a new Ipad and downloaded the IO PMC-Eight database.  I connect to the Ipad and it shows connected PMC-Eight-76 in my settings/wifi connections.  When I open Explore Stars and try to move the mount with the UDRL controls or the compass rose control nothing happens.  It's as if there is no connection.  The indicator lights on the control box seem to be correct.  I have a solid red light, a solid green, a slowly flashing green and a fast flashing green.  I have shut down the system and rebooted, pushed the reset button, shut down the ipad and rebooted to no avail.  All cable connections are tight.  When I use my windows laptop connected serially everything works fine.  Thanks for your help.

Jennifer

The correct procedure after update is to set current configuration after selecting g11.  So you did that!

As for the northern hemisphere I think this is a consequence of this not being a new install.  So useful tip for everyone is likely to be to ensure the northern hemisphere is selected upon initial setup of the new firmware with the UFCT.

So glad to hear all went well.

I am pleased to report that the new FW and new ASCOM driver worked great for me last night with my G-11.  The UFCT would not let me change the mount to G-11 from iExos-100.  It would select G-11 and my COM port and click Get My Current Configuration and it would revert to iExos-100 and tell me to either select Exos-2 or G-11.  I bypassed it by clicking Set Current Configuration and then it would let me change the mount to G-11.  The other thing I noticed in the UFCT is that Northern Hemisphere was not checked by default.  Not sure if this was intentional or not.  I did not notice it at first and was scratching my head trying to figure out why my mount was slewing towards the ground.  I did not have any issues with PHD2 guide pulses stopping.  Was able to guide my entire session.  The last thing I noticed is that I when I slewed the mount to my target my orientation from Stellarium was not taken into account.  Other than that a drastic improvement compared to my last time out. Now I have to do the same thing for my Exos-2 and iExos-100.

These are all taken with my iExos-100  mount and 80mm telescope Canon T7, guided no filter lot of 3min light frames, Dark, flats, and bias frames

From my townhome driveway Bortle 7. Taken with my iEXOS-100 mount and Canon T7 camera on 80mm Svbony scope, guided and 3 min subs 40 frames. Over 2 nights at 22deg elevation had finger X as the scope was just clearing the trees and I was shooting over the lights of MPL, MN no filters. Stacked with Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photoshop.  I usually try and take pictures above the light bubble 45-50 degrees above the horizon but this is a high as this target get for me.

Thanks guys!

On the next clear night I will test everything connected to POTH as opposed to the ASCOM Hub. I have been able to connect to POTH and control the mount using APT with no issues, but need to wait for a clear dark sky before i can test the guiding and see if i still get these Pulse Error issues.

Reading past posts on here, a lot of advice is to connect to the mount using POTH. Having checked my ASCOM installation today, I had only "ACOM Device Hub" installed, reading more it seems that POTH has been replaced by Device Hub but what is the expert opinion on which one should be used?
Hi Euan,

My expert opinion is that POTH is better than Device Hub at this point. I have used POTH for over 5 years at the MSRO and have never had any problem with it. IT IS OLD though, so you have to select it manually when you instlall the ASCOM Platform 6.5 as it has been delegated as a legacy app with Device Hub being the default on installation. You do have to understand how the manual controls work on POTH to get the most use out of it, but most other ASCOM client software provides their own manual controls.
