Glad your new mount is working out for you!
 
As to the older one... If you want parts, try calling Explore Scientific customer service.  I've had few issues, and they've been good to deal with.  I asked them for a replacement for a sticky worm block literally just yesterday. 
 
A bit of speculation on your wobble...
 
If the wobble has the period you say, that sounds kinda fast for an issue with the worm and drum gears.  I've not seen the GT's drive train - just a catalog picture, but have you looked back upstream at the motors and their gear train?  Perhaps a burr or foreign matter on an internal gear that's turning closer to that frequency?

Exos 2gt Non PMC8 Parts?

Hey all,

I think I've finally got the kinks worked out of the (very small) issues i was having with the PMC8. Very happy with how it is currently performing for me.
I also have the non PMC8 version of the exos 2gt. It's always had a pretty serious wobble in the tracking. Now i know this group is specifically for the PMC8, but i can't seem to find any decent info anywhere else about this mount, so i figured i would reach out here.
Since the recent release of the ASCOM wired connection for the exos 2gt (which i acquired, set up and got operational). I have gotten very interested i trying to fix the issue that my old exos 2gt mount has. It would be great to be able to use this mount for AP as well as the PMC8.
While tracking the mount seems to "wobble" back and forth. basically it seems like someone keeps tapping the scope. It happens randomly, every 5 to 10 seconds. Sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little shorter. It's the same wobble every time. I've tried adjusting the gears and worm drive to no avail. 
So i guess my question is, does anyone have any ideas? Or should i just replace the gears and worm? And if that's the issue then where can i get these parts?
On top of that does anyone know if there are any forums or groups dedicated to the non PMC8 version of the exos 2gt so i can ask these questions in the right place?

I watched this thread with interest as I was attempting to install Explorestars too on a new Samsung 7" tab.  My problem was I unknowingly had a bad SD card.  After multiple failed attemps,replaced the card with a much larger card and followed the instructions word by word and I was successful too.  


User defined database for Explore Stars

Are there any plans for a user defined database of objects for the Explore Stars program?

I am thinking of one where we can enter comet and minor planet ephemeris into the system and have it calculate current positions?

I first started using the Celestron Power Tank with my Celestron CG5-GT mount.  I seem to remember some posts on Cloudy Nights about having to fiddle with the mount's connector (in your case PMC-8.  I don't remember if I had to do those fiddles or not with the CG5 When I got my CGEM mount it was nice because it came with an adaptor screwed into the mount so made a great connection.  However when I sold that mount I sent along that connector, so am back to my original one that came with the Power Tank.  I have no problems powering the PMC-8 with it.  Take a look at this post on CN, the third or fourth response discusses what I'm talking about.

I have the Celestron Power Tank that I use with my other mount without issues, I tried to run the PMC-Eight with it and it I got no power light. I will need a portable power source for this controller. Watching this thread.

Yes, we are very close to releasing the initial version of the iOS ExploreStars App. As you saw (and I was waiting to hear someone mention it) we updated our manual based on the impending release of the app. We are still doing some final tweaks and making it ready to load onto the app store for people to start downloading.  I will make an announcement here, on CloudyNights, Facebook, and on our website when it is available for download.

Ah Ha.  I bet your security setting somewhere are killing off the app.  You using a windows machine?  

I don't think I can attach that big a file.  Let me post the extracted sqlite file.  I think it should be ok to just put it on the card in the right place, but I don't know.

I guess I agree that you are missing the application ExploreStars.sqlite.

My Explorestars directory on the SD card has one folder, Images, and the .sqlite app.  So until you figure out how to get that, you probably will continue to get the error message.

I just downloaded the Explorestars.zip and unpacked it onto my MAC.  The file structure it creates is:

Explorestars (folder)
          Images (sub folder)
          ExploreStares.sqlite

All of that needs to be at the root of the SD card.

Somehow it appears that when you created the folder the app did not get put there.

Don't know what to tell you.  Start with a formatted SD card.  download the Explorestars.zip file from http://02d3287.netsolhost.com/pmc-eight/Android.html onto your computer.

Unzip the foil either directly to an SD card plugged into a reader on your computer or into a file folder on your computer.

If you unzipped onto the SD card then look to see if you got the file structure above.  Same if on the computer.  If on the computer move the EXploreStars folder to the SD card root.

That should work.

Hi All,

To confirm I just downloaded the database file again from the ExploreStars website, and the SQLite folder is not in the extracted zip file.

Could someone please send me a copy of the zip file that contains this directory as I suspect this may be the reason I cannot get the app to work on my tablet?

It seems that you were able to get it to change the channel two times as the PMC-Eight is shipped with the channel set to 6 from the factory. Odd that it hasn't changed any more.

I have read through this already. And i have been able to see what channel the wifi is currently on. For whatever reason i cannot seem to get the channel to change. It is currently stuck on 8. No matter what i do with the dongle it does not want to change. Channel 8 seems like a poor channel to be stuck on, as it's going to be overlapping with other channels. This may be why ive had constant drop outs.
Having said this, you already pointed out the proper usb adapter i need to use to hook up wired mode.  I bought it. And it seems to work. Im excited to use it. Hopefully no more issues with disconnecting mid session! 
Looking forward to some looooong exposures :)
