Hi Dave! I took this image over the course of a couple of nights here in Redding Ca. which is a bortle class 4-5 sky. I think I used a CLS filter on this as I have a street light near by. It has about 5 hours of total expose with combined 60 second subs to get the core and 240 second subs for detail. The total number of subs was around 50 or 60 if I remember correctly.

RA Axis Issues #EXOS2

Justin Bailo <bailo.justin@...>

Hello, I have a EXOS2-GT PMC-8 and it is giving me some trouble with the RA axis. My RA axis has been perfectly fine, no issues. other then when I set it up recently. I noticed the mount for some reason when looking at it from the front , it would keep bouncing back to 11:00.

I have my scope mounted and balanced to my best ability.
I home the Dec axis, then the RA axis. Then I take the RA and turn it horizontal counterweights to one side, the scope to the other. With the CLUTCH FULLY UNLOCKED, If I let it go while holding the counterweights on the right side, the counterweights will drop to 5:00 and the top to 11:00, So then I try  taking the counterweight to the left side, and when I release the counterweights swing past, then back to 5:00 and the scope to 11:00.

The absolute best way I can describe what it feels like is, The scope is level, then I push to the left, it's smooth, it almost pulls the scope all the way. when I push to the right, it feels like i'm pulling against a rubber band thats building up, building, then when i let go all the tension releases and it bounces back to 11:00

Hi Scott and welcome,
That's a nice shot of Andromeda there. What level of light pollution did you have when that was taken?

Did you use any filtering?
Number/length of subs please.

Thanks

Hi, I'm new to this group, and your post shows  why Im here.
2 years ago my AVX head crashed, I felt on the stairs outside, an the mount head crashed into concrete.
I lost my interest and was only sad. I could'nt and wont invest into asto since then.
As I'm a fotographer, for 5 years now, i got the ioptron star tracker and managed to get Andromeda last week with my cam. Since then I wanted to go back to Astronomie, and step into fotographing. I' m selling some of my visual equipment, and yes, my C9, to have some money to spend into new gear.
So I'm sure about am 80 doublet, the mount is still questioned. I came across the PMC, and it's very interesting, and as plus an very active manufacturer and customers helping. This shows this thread. I will read on, and maybe the Exos2 PMC will be the partner in my garden at night.

Hi guys!, first post to the group! Here are two images that I took at the end of last year using my Original EXOS2 GT. I sold this mount because I feel I have taken it as far as it could go as far as tracking. I am actually looking at the newer Exos PMC8 for my next mount, but I am wondering if I should wait until the next generation of mounts to come out from ES. Anyways, here are the images!

Use the Configuration manager to upgrade the firmware.  It knows where all the latest firmware is, brings it in, lets you select the version you want, and loads it all through an easy UI.

Hi Harvey,

It sounds like the Communication Watchdog timer is stopping the mount's tracking. This is designed to kick in when a program or in your case, the ASIAIR stops sending commands to the mount. Typically ASCOM or in this case INDI clients would continuously query the mount to get real-time position data at a minimum. It sounds like this is not the case with the ASIAIR program(s).

The fix is to download the latest EXOS 2 PMC-Eight "a" version firmware (9t_17a_EXOS2) and install it on your PMC-Eight system.

I think this will correct your problem.

Once, I am active via serial, I assume I can disconnect the mount WiFi connection - correct ?

Peter:

No I dont think it is faulty, at least not yet.

1.  You must have your PC attached to the PMC8 via wifi for the CM to function correctly.
2.  Get a clean boot of the PMC8 and choose the PMC8 wifi for the PC WiFi connection
3.  Plug in the serial cable.
4.  Boot the Configuration Manager.
5.  Drop down the connection tab.
6.  Set the mount type to Exos2
7.  Press the find button.
8.  Press the refresh button to ensure you have the comm port
9.  Pick the comm port reported by the Find button.
10 Press the top right DO IT button to Find Current Connection
11.  Now assuming all is well press the VIA ASCOM DO IT button.

Thats it, you are now in serial mode.

If this does not work, report back the status of the bottom line of the window.  Two different connection method indicators, will be green or red.

Give us a rundown on your configuration, cables etc etc.

One item that bit someone with the iexos was the usb cable they were using was a charging only cable with no data wires.  Make sure you have a real usb cable.

Good day Dave,

The ASIAIR or PRO eliminates the need to carry an external computer with you; everything is controlled from the box.
