I know. But that happens sometime. I have had time where I have been at it for an hour nothing works! Then change nothing and all of a sudden it all clicks!

Hi I am new to this, had my EXOS 2 PMC8 for a couple of months now and everything seems to be working fine apart from I cannot take images for longer than 60 seconds without getting trails.

I have been using Sharpcap 2 with a Altair GPCAM2 290C for polar aligning attached to Skywatcher Evostar Ed80, I get exelent according to sharpcap.

I then slew to an object in Stellarium but am always off?

I amusing POTH hub and connected to laptop via serial port.

I will be trying N. I. N. A. soon to see if there is a difference.

Any help or suggestion welcome. Thanks

If your using an exos 2. You may get errors in the guiding. Check the cables and balance. Its quite hard to balance in dec. In fact really hard! The cables make it even harder. Play with the cables and see when it's happy. Take pics for future ref.

Cheers

The iEXOS 100 mount does not have an "a" version of the firmware because the firmware never had the communications watchdog enabled.
Only the G11 and EXOS 2 versions of the firmware (9TXX) had the watchdog timer.

Technical drawing or stl for polar scope adapter #iEXOS-100 #polaralignment

John Wells

Hi,

I recently purchased the iexos-100 and am trying to find a reliable way to mount my polar scope.

I've already tried mounting it to the lower control box by 3d printing an adapter, removing the two m2. 5 screws and replacing with longer ones - - similar to the commercially available polar scope but on the lower box.

However my design impinges on the scope a bit when imaging near the meridian, and it was also only tight briefly... slop keeps appearing.

Would like to try printing or CNC machining a bracket like the commercial mount for the top control box. Are any technical drawings available?

Also any advice on how to reduce slop if it really is only held on by two m2.5 screws.

I understand you might not want to share the drawings, but I've already purchased the scope and az adjuster, and already have the polar scope I'd like to use!

Thanks in advance,

John

Jerry,

Thanks for responding.

I bought the mount on 13 Aug 2019. I don't remember updating any firmware, but I could have as I was trying out the PMC 8 config tool sometimes in the past. The mount was shelved for almost 10 months as I was not very impressed with the polar alignment process on this mount where you have to loosen the mount and turn by hand. Got the alt az adapter few weeks back and getting now to use the mount finally.

Updating the firmware seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks,
-vijay

I didn't see any difference atleast on the green light being consistently on just accessing air app. It behaved the same way, when the telescope settings page was accessed, where it became green and went off immediately as soon as one exited the page.
Hi Vijay,

The green light only comes on when communications is occurring on the mount.

I confirmed the firmware version on my mount was also ES1A10B2.
The message thread you refer to discusses a short term issue that was never applicable to any production iEXOS mount delivered as far as I know.
Unless you installed the firmware available from August 5 ,2019 to October 15, 2019, you would never have seen this problem in the production version ES1A10B2 delivered after October 15, 2019.

It seems that in vijaysam's case, if he did not install version ES1A10B2 last year then it was somehow installed on the mount at our HQ for some reason during that period.

Nonetheless, reinstalling the firmware will fix the issue.

I'll forward the mail I got from J. Hubbell to explain this better.
The iEXOS 100 mount does not have an "a" version of the firmware because the firmware never had the communications watchdog enabled.
Only the G11 and EXOS 2 versions of the firmware (9TXX) had the watchdog timer.

Hi all.

I have made some videos on you tube. Have a look at the nina sequence. Subs upto 5 mins no polar alignment.!

Apps like Polar Align Pro will tell you where exactly to place polaris in the reticle.

From what I've been able to dig out, Mike Leemhuis is correct: the four circles are for the Southern Sky. The EXOS2 is an update of the Meade LXD 75; our EXOS2 uses the same polar alignment scope and shares its instruction manual. That set of instructions (for both mounts) does seems to leave out the note that those four stars are for the Southern Hemisphere, where Polaris is unavailable. I initially tried to align to those, too, but was never convinced! A little digging on the 'web turned up a slick way to use the scope for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere :

http://www.thestardeckobservatory.com/Polaralign.html

This describes the "Clay's Kochab Clock" method. It uses an imaginary line between Kochab and Polaris as a reference for setting the RA prior to adjusting the azimuth and elevation controls. It's simple and quick, for those who really want or need to do a careful physical alignment. Once I got it in my brain, it made sense.

I can see Polaris but not Kochab; so I cheat a little and use one of the virtual displays available on my cellphone in order to check the angle of the line between Kochab and Polaris. I can swing the RA until the counterweight shaft aligns with what I see on my phone. It's probably not perfect, but still better than simply centering Polaris, and only takes a few minutes.

As a newbie, this feels right; but It would be great to have a real Guru declare it correct.
