#iEXOS-100 in Stellarium always complaining about the mount being parked #iEXOS-100

deonb

How do I "unpark" the mount to use it in Stellarium?

NINA also gives me a message that the mount is parked, but it unparks it itself. However, Stellarium doesn't.

I tried unparking it in SharpCap, but it doesn't make Stellarium happy.

This is using the Stellarium Telescope Control plugin. I see there is some old comments on this thread using POTH instead, but it seems like POTH is no longer installed with the ASCOM Platform.

I would try uninstalling ascom 6.5 and installing v6.4 instead.

I had issues with 6.5 that were resolved when I went to 6.4.

My issues were unrelated to yours, as they were device hub related,  but ya never know...

Using the Exos-2 PMC Eight with Mac.

Hi everyone. I am using my Exos -2 with ExploreStars on my IPad which is great but I want to take it further especially for astrophotography. Can anybody help me with what I need to do to get started so I can use my Mac mini to run the mount and maybe do guiding. Jerry as mentioned that Ascom is not available for Mac but there is INDI and/or Ascom alpaca. I would love to use my Mac  from the house to power everything outside, that’s the dream. Wether WiFi or cable. Any help on how to get started would be gratefully received.

iEXOS-100 slow slew rate in SharpCap

deonb

Edited

Having problems with SharpCap - the maximum rate I can set it to is 50x.

However, at 50x it moves at a rate of about 3 arcmins per second. So it will take 30 mins to rotate the head 90 degrees.

How can I get it to slew faster?

I can do a positional slew using NINA, and that works, but I can't do polar alignment in NINA.

Hi Mike
If all three compasses are different you might be too close to some iron someplace in your setup.
I use aluminum extrusions from Home Depot to distance my compass from the mount. Wood works also.

You should use a level app on your phone if you have one and a compass to independently verify that you are very close (to within a couple of degree) of the North Celestial Pole (NCP). If that is the case, then you should be within a 2 to 3 degrees of the target when slewing to the object. Close enough is good enough for this first try. Don't forget to take into account you local Magnetic Declination for the compass reading.

Make sure the mount is at Home position when you power up PMC-8 and don't release clutches. There aren't any encoders so it only knows where it is by counting from Home.

Re: EXOS2 PMC-Eight Polar Alignment issue.

As doing it that way solved the problem? I’m interested Bill because I have been trying this method as well with mixed results. You have just explained something different as to how I have been doing it which may cure my problem. I have been pointing the RA as it says in the app then moving Polaris into the circle. I haven’t put Polaris in the crosshairs prior to this.

Re: Slew Errors #EXOS2 #ExploreStars

Lloyd Simons <simonsl23@...>

Bob,

If you plate solve and sync at the ncp you can confuse the mount. I think it can break the pointing model. Syncs at the ncp routinely give issues. By omitting this solve and sync you should be fine.
1. Polar align.
2. Turn on mount and connect to software.
3. Slew to Target.
4. Plate solve and sync.
This works well for me.

Looks like we are going to have a couple clear nights here in Michigan for you to try it out. Good luck.

Hi everyone, I just got a new EXOS-2 PMC-Eight mount. When I switch it on,
1. I hear a humming sound from the mount, but don't see any movement
2. My ExploreStars app just says "Please Wait"

Could someone guide me on what to do; I've watched a few videos, read and re-read the manual, reset my wi-fi, and re-balanced my scope multiple times, but nothing helped :(

Any help on this would be highly appreciated!

Re: Slew Errors #EXOS2 #ExploreStars

Tyler Bowman - Explore Scientific Customer Service

Lets simplify things and do the basics, manually do a polar alignment or use sharpcap and get a good polar alignment.
then slew to a object and lets see how far off you are.

Can i ask what kind programs are you running?

1. Power supply voltage is => 12Vdc
2. Longitude, Latitude, Time, and Time Zone are correct for your location
3. The mount is placed in the Home position according to the index pointers on each axis.
4. The mount is balanced (slight imbalances are okay)
5. The gear mesh is good based on no noticeable excessive motor/drive noise indicative of motor skipping steps.

Well Tyler here is the problem I have.  Ok, let's say the error is with plate solving at the NCP.  I still slew 'somewhere' and plate solve there, so now the scope should know where it is.  Given that it now knows where it is it should be a simple matter to go where it is told.  Yet it continues to go somewhere else.  I plate solve there, so now the scope again knows where it is pointing, and tell it to go somewhere to a known target, yet it moves in a completely different direction.  Can I reset the mount?  Maybe it starts with bad data and no matter what I tell it to do it is still lost?
