Re: Guide Graphs and Impressions

W. Christopher Moses

Thanks.
I'm definitely following the thread.
I'll start taking a look at everything right now!

Re: New file uploaded to ESPMC-Eight

Cool. Thanks for the data. I look forward to going through it.
What are your impressions and observations?

Re: Guide Graphs and Impressions

Jeremy Parker

Hi Chris,

I just used PPEC in PHD2 for the first time on Friday night and have uploaded my guidelog from that night to the files area. Feel free to take a look at it. I'm seeing about 0.2" peak at the worm period in the frequency analysis, along with some very small 76" error. This is a big improvement over the 1.5" peak I was previously seeing when only using the hysteresis algorithm in PHD2. I've uploaded my pictures and other details to my Cloudy Nights post (which I think you might have been following?)

Enjoy!
Jeremy

Re: Release of Latest PMC-Eight ASCOM Driver and ExploreStars Android App

Jeny@

Hi,

I getting error 'Could not open database file' on ExploreStars startup. Seems the issue is it cannot locate databse and images, but ExploreStars folder with data is installed on SDCard under Android directory.
Please, see attached image for details. Any ides how how to fix it?

Thanks!

Here is my first pass at processing some data:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtOwX6zN-JCxi9Mjq7Q-KZPSqpGXbg

G-11 PMC-8

AT 115 w/ fffr

ASI 1600 cooled

ZWO FIlter wheel

ZWO ASI 120 (??) guide camera and OAG

Aprrox:

20x120" each of Ha, OIII, SII, and Lum.

60 Dark

A lot of Bias

0 flats (Accidentally deleted the folder...oops)

Note - I'll post the exact specs if I clean it up.

A few notes:

1. The stars on the edges clearly have an abnormal shape. The eccentricity increases and they are a bit lopsided. I think this indicates that the spacing to my new camera, an ASI 1600 was a bit off.

2. It's overly red for my taste, but it's a start.

Any CC is welcome, especially about the star shape.

Thanks.

Re: Guide Graphs and Impressions

On a similar note - a few other questions related to guiding:

1. Anybody tried the new Predictive PEC algorithm in PhD2 yet.  (description at : https://openphdguiding.org/man-dev/Guide_algorithms.htm )

2. When you look at an FFT-type plot of the error. What frequencies stand out.

Thanks,

What FL are you using?

don't have a graph but I can get 5 minute exposures and a typical Tot of .44 not perfect but still round stars.

Guide Graphs and Impressions

Hi Everyone,

As I get ready for another season of AP, I was wondering how well people had managed to "dial-in" the G11 guiding.

I've seen one or two people post picts of their graphs, but can we get more?

Post a pict of your graph or let us know what sort of guiding accuracy you are getting!

I'll post mine as soon as I soon as this late snow stops.

Thanks Everyone.

I'm going to try to make, but can't 100% commit yet.

Traveling to NEAF 2018 starting Tuesday

hubbell_jerry@...

I will be traveling starting on Tuesday, April 17th to New York to take a couple of days off and attend the North East Astronomy Forum 2018 in Suffern, NY.

http://www.rocklandastronomy.com/neaf.html

If you don't already now about it, it is the largest astronomy equipment forum in the US. This will by my 8th trip in 9 years. I will be at the Explore Scientific booth so if you are going, come by and see me. We can discuss your experiences with the PMC-Eight and I will be there to demonstrate the different features of the system.

Since I will be traveling next week, I will have limited time to respond to the Yahoo Groups forum questions but I will try and check in a couple times during the week. I will be back home and at work on Tuesday, April 24th.

To celebrate NEAF 2018, Explore Scientific is offering a special NEAF sale:

Hi Jerry -

I'm looking forward to meeting you as well!  I'm going to do my best to persuade you to come down to Georgia and talk to Charlie Elliott Astronomy about your experiences developing the PMC 8 system.

Hi Steve!

Greg told me that you are going to NEAF, I look forward to meeting you there next week.

Thanks Bob for forwarding that link. Yes, if you can run KitKat or later, then it should be good.

I have it running on my Sony  Xpreria tablet which dates from 2013, runs fine.

There were a few glitches but Jerry and his team have sorted them and it’s running fine.

A couple of questions on the Explore Stars Android App...

1)  For Jerry:  Any thoughts on supported versions of the Android OS?  The most current version in production, I believe, is Oreo.  However, Google still supports Marshmallow from 2015.  This will be an important consideration when choosing an Android tablet.

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history

2) For those using the Android app, I know the app isn't available in the Play store yet, but what devices (brand/model) are you using successfully at this point in time?

G-11 is en route and should be in Georgia by Tuesday.  My apologies in advance for the coming monsoons.

Jerry,

I dont think the problem is as you have analysed
it. Maybe YOU dont see your postings; but this is
the THIRD copy of this one that I have received. So it works for me!

Am I alone in this, or did others get Jerry's post three times?

I'll add that something is odd: I am a member of
three Yahoo groups, and nobody complains about
this specific problem in the other two.

Sorry not to be able to offer a solution; but on
the basis of the above facts, I am pleased to aver that there must be one!

Best,

David

Jeremy,Jerry,

Its happening to me also. My posts are being sporadic when I am trying to post. Initially I was forbidden from posting any messages. Now its sporadic. Its happening to my local club yahoo group too so I am guessing its a yahoo thing.

Jeremy,
What you have described are mount position
limits, which have been around since the
beginning. Mount limits are not part of the
original ASCOM API so I did not implement them.
Mount limits are available in some ASCOM client
programs such as Maxim DL, but are probably best
implemented in the driver itself. I can look add
this to my list of improvements for the driver.
