Hi Wes
problem solved
was the power cord
found another cord and all works now
5       Received: ESGp0000000!
4       ComManager:     Serial Returned: ESGp0000000!
3       ComManager:     Start Sending Serial Message: ESGp0!
2       Sending via Serial: ESGp0!

the lights that were flashing are now solid
plus now 2 different lights doing their thing

so if these lights are flashing and no other lights (serial on left)
led 6 power red - top left
and led 2 wifi green - mid bottom
then its the power cord
should add this to the trouble shooter or knowledge base

Wes thanks for your time
really appreciated

regards
Al

Hi Wes
I may have found the issue
I been moving the box around and took it to my desktop pc
installed all software and drivers and it would not connect
moved it back to my laptop and noticed while plugging in power
there was no power to box
ran cord thru my fingers then came to  a spot in the cord  then the box lit up
lol
yes positive, no pmc8 wifi network
with serial port on left
these lights on the pmc8 box are flashing, no other lights doing anything
led 6 power red - top left
and led 2 wifi green - mid bottom

looking for another cord
maybe not enough power thru cord, so lights flashing ?
what a pita
will advise
regards

Al:

The PMC8 network needs to appear in the WiFi network connections...are you sure it is not?  This does not sound good.

AS you view PMC8 front panel with serial port on left, tell me again what flights you see and what they are doing?

Wes.

Hi Wes
ok
win device manager - usb serial com port 7, driver looks good, no complaints
got new ftdi cable installed, all good, removed old/hidden coms

Ascom Driver - serial, port 7

CM -  connection - exos2, com port it shows port 7, pressing find  it says -
does not automatically find the com port to pmc8, make sure it is connected
pressing the do it button says it appears scope is not connected

no pmc8 wifi network appears in network, so stuck in serial

CM-Advanced - serial on, sending ESGV! , with extensive debug  returns this
77       Received:
76       ComManager:     Serial Returned:
75       ComManager:     Start Sending Serial Message: ESGp0!
74       Sending via Serial: ESGp0!

parallax - port 7, it sees the port, baud 115200, enable - seems to connect to port
not sure I know what im doing with this but entering in command ESGp0! or ESGv! returns no result

regards

Comm port denied means there is another app attached to the comm port.  Ascom cannot get to it.  Sounds like a windows issue

Why don’t you start from scratch and using the configuration manager give us a step by step you are trying to use and tell us where you break

Also before you do any of that, go in the windows device manager with the usb to serial plugged into the computer and see what it says about the usb connection.  It will give you a comm port number under the usb devices I think.   Look around for it if it isn’t there.  If the computer is seeing it you will find it.  And you can check the driver for the device.  Ain’t much help but it’s something

Also, see can you do a refresh of comm ports using the refresh button in the cm.   See if the port shows up.  Also connect the serial up to the pmc8, go to the advanced tab of the cm.  Assuming you have the cm set to the comm port on which the pmc8 is.  Then turn on the radio button for serial and try sending an ESGv!.    Sometimes even when the cm cannot find it connect to the mount it can do that.

If that fails, load the parallax serial terminal from parallax web site.  Open it and see if you Can connect to the pmc8.  If it sees the comm port.  Make sure you set the baud rate to 115200.   Then you can manually enter the ESGv! Command and should see a reply in the terminal window.  This is a direct connection method and obviates a lot of stuff in the Cm that sometimes causes it not to work.

Also you can try using the cm and the advanced tab to send ESGv in tcp and udp if the Windows PC has joined the pmc8 network.  Maybe you got switched over to WiFi by accident

Need more input from you to help really

Connection Issue #EXOS2 #pmc-eight

Al Parise

Hey Gang

I am having a connection issue with exos2-pmc8
been able to fix other issues with info from this board
but no luck this time

All year I have had no connecting issues
win10 laptop - ascom-stellarium-apt-phd2, using prolific usb-serial connection

last working connection was last week 12/29, got a few hours in
then setup and tried on new years eve, 12/31, and nothing, would not connect
nothing changed in setup or hw/sw from night to night
been trying to trouble shoot this now since then with no luck

went thru the usual settings/drivers/device manger/bios
reinstalled all the sw/drivers
rummaged thru the message board here for ideas
bot new usb-serial cable with ftdi chip, no go

the ascom device hub does give me an error when trying to connect
- access to com port denied - nothing on google search really pops out as a fix

the pmc8 box led 6 power, and led 2 wifi mod power are both flashing
not sure if that means something but I'm all out of ideas

regards

Jerry, thanks for doing this, I have devoured everything in what I downloaded and am now working my way through your "Scientific Astrophotography"  book I received for Christmas.

As much as I love the images I am getting I really love understanding the math behind what I am doing.

Re: iEXOS 100 - lost communication #iEXOS-100 #ConfigManager #ExploreStars

It is now working!
Thank you all for your assistance and time, I really appreciate it.

As it turns out the issue was the USB cable. It was working, hence my loss off communication with the mount.
I bought a new cable and plugged it in, followed Wes's steps again and I am now communicating with my mount.

What an awesome here, thank you!

It was confusing at first for me as well. But the tech help at Explore Scientific pointed me in the right direction.
True you will need a DB9-USB w the FTDI chip set. I found them on Amazon. Theyre  Cheap.
Then we need to download the programs from their website.
If you go to the group.io and do a search for Asiar & PMC8 someone wrote a beautiful procedure.
I’m still waiting for my exes 2 because it’s backordered.
But for now contact tech support at Explorescientific.
Try emailing Tyler@explorescientific. He will help you.

Hi,

I emailed Bresser with this question earlier but they didn't know the answer & directed to ask here.
Although I should have checked before I bought it      (I can still get a refund as I only have it on pre order) I was looking at ways to control my whole Astrophotography set up with my ES EXOS II PMC 8 mount and the ASIair Pro control box seemed perfect.
But when I looked into how they both connect to each other & after countless searches on line all I could find was that I'd need a cable with an FTDI Chipset but that the chipset would need to be reprogrammed.

Unfortunately I'm not particularly technically minded & havnt a clue what an FTDI chipset is never mind how to reprogramme one.
I'd be very grateful if someone has any info on this or can at least point me in the right direction.
Better still would be an idiots guide to connecting them both 😬

Regards

The list might be blank until you press the refresh button.  Try that.

If you did already try that then you have to open the device manager on windows and see if the usb to serial adapter is listed.  If it is not, and you are sure you have the driver installed, then I suggest you try another usb cable.  Be sure the cable is not a charging only cable.  Some do not have data capability.  This has burned others on the forum.

If the cable is good, and the driver is good, and the iexos is powered and you are sure windows is working, then maybe the iexos has failed.  But that is not likely.

How about when you give it all a go, if you have  no luck you give us a step by step what you did relative to the configuration manager

Hi Wes,

Answers:
John
How do I regain communication with my mount, iEXOS 100. (Explore Stars Application / UDP)
Kabul :-)

Thank you for the advice,
I did what you suggested, installed the FTDI driver, plugged in everything and booted up the mount.
Opened CM, verified that I was connected to the PMC-8 network, button is green.
No options listed in the drop down port list, blank.
Tried to manually enter the COM settings with no success, also tried different USB ports on my computer.
I repeated the steps 4 times now and still no joy.

Thank you for the advice!

Plug everything in.  Boot iexos.  Connect WiFi to pmc8 network

Open configuration manager.

Check the cm shows green lower right on connection tabfor the WiFi

Press the refresh button
Drop down comm port list and select the pmc8 comm port

Press find button

If you get a positive response press top right do it button

Then set the comms mode to udp

Good luck

Hopefully you will avoid the valley if eternal peril

Re: iEXOS 100 - lost communication #iEXOS-100 #ConfigManager #ExploreStars

Thank you Roger for the response.
I've tried setting it back to wireless with the USB cable plugged in, the response is "Wi-Fi connection not found"
My computer is connected to the PMC wireless network, in order to open the Config Manager, yet the Config Manager cannot see it.
Here is the response when I save the settings, "PMC-Eight connected to PMC-Eight-0184"
Still it says  "Wi-Fi connection not found"

I am at a loss...
Any advice would be great as I am stuck for now :-)
Thank you all so much.

Roger Laine

I had a similar experience in testing my setup: whilst exploring the use of the PMC-Eight Config Mgr I switched to ‘Serial’ with no serial cable connected and that was the end of my testing: I could only restore communication with the mount once I connected using the cable that was at that time still in the post! (I used to be a Software Consultant so I am a compulsive ‘tester’!)
Maybe there is a means of switching it back to UDP without a cable?  I don’t know. Good luck with it.

iEXOS 100 - lost communication #iEXOS-100 #ConfigManager #ExploreStars

All,
I am very new to this hobby.
I recently purchased an ES iEXOS 100 mount, had everything working perfectly. Explore Stars communicated and was able slew, search, etc...
Now I have no communication with the mount, I am connected to the PMC-Eight wireless network but nothing works.
What I tried was;
- Config Manager - reset to UDP, to TCP and back to UDP, tried the serial connections still nothing. Cannot connect to wifi
-  ASCOM drivers and applications, switched the network to TCP and ASCOM could not see the mount, reset back to UDP, even though no network is found.
I am at a complete loss here, is there a way to reset the mount back to factory default?
Thank you!
