[Edited Message Follows]

Here's an image that shows the correct order, based on the engineering drawings.

I've asked that the order be stated in the iEXOS-100 manual. The list of washers is there, but the words do no state that it is the correct (or in this case, the incorrect) order.

The order
1 -- thin washer
2 -- needle bearing
3 -- thin washer
4 -- wavy washer
5 -- thick washer
6 -- thick washer

The clutch knob would be No. 7.

Hi Pete, I've tried downloading via my PC and directly to my tablet several times now and still not able to get the app to open the database..... I've now got an sd card reader which Tyler recommends but this is the first time I've had a problem with the database, apart from my very first attempt a few years ago when I was not organising the folders correctly.
I'll report back when I have used the card reader.... If this doesn't work I will conclude that maybe the sqlite file is corrupted.
Thankyou for helping, kind regards, Brian

For some reason the updated version of ExploreStars, works fine, until I try and select an object from the catalog.  Any object I select my device tells me there was a problem and the app crashes.
I have uninstalled the ES app and DB completely from the tablet (Its a standard Android tab 12 months old now) it was working swimmingly until it autoupdated the app :(

Anybody have any ideas? Or do I need to reset the whole tablet and reinstall and hope for the best?

Thanks,
Sean,

Re: Data base is on SD card but will not load onto the application #ExploreStars #Android

Pete@torrington

My tablet is a Samsung TAB A (2016) model SM-T585
I also have a number of Windoze boxes, mostly running ancient OS versions.
My Win 10 laptop does not have an SD card slot.
The OS on the machine with an SD slot does not recognise the file structure on the SD card, so that's a non-starter.
I found the following works for loading the database to the SD card on and using the tablet.
It relies heavily on the edit function under Myfiles.
> Download the zip file
> At the root level on the SD card, create 2 folders - ExploreStars and, let's say, ES.
(The system doesn't like moving files or folders to the SD root)
> Move the zip file to ES on the SD card
> Unzip the zip file
> In the unzip folder created by the system, locate the folder ExploreStars and open it
> Move the sqlite file and the images folder (with contents) to the ExploreStars folder at the SD root
ExploreStars should now display its Catalog.
Restart if necessary to make it look for the database again.

Hope that is helpful
Pete

Hi Andreas, this is not a workaround, the PMC-Eight ASCOM driver is just a driver like many other drivers. It is not a server. In order to connect multiple ASCOM clients to a driver, you have to use some kind of ASCOM hub or server. POTH has been proven reliable over the past several years.

Thanks Jeff, that is my understanding as well but there maybe another reason why an SDcard reader is preferable. Tyler will hopefully clarify.

What is the correct order for washers and locking washer on the knob of the iEXOS 100 PMC Eight Tripod #iEXOS-100

David

Hi all,

The locking washer has somehow split and the knob dropped out of the bottom of the Tripod when I was disengaging the mount from the Tripod.

Is there a specific order for the various washers that accompanied the knob to the floor to be put back together? I want to make sure it all goes back together correctly.

Appreciate your feedback.

I’m not Tyler; but, that will work as well.  If you can see the SD card when you connect your tablet that IS an SD card reader.

Hi Tyler(and Wes) many thanks for this, very useful indeed. Firstly my Android Tablet is a Samsung Tab A, model no. SM-T510, running Android 10, about 2 years old.
From your step by step guide I am sure I have followed most of the steps both now and previously when I have had no trouble in getting earlier versions of the App to open the database. Having said that, one thing that may be more critical now than in the past is the use of an SD Card reader, previously I have transferred the unzipped ExploreStars folder (containing the Image sub folder and sqlite file) from my PC to my Tablet SDcard using the standard USB cable. As I do not have an SDcard reader, do you think this is an essential necessity?
Hope you can give advise on the permissions and Sdcard questions please?
Again many thanks and kind regards, Brian

Re: Installed ascom drivers, explorestars dont work anymore #ASCOM #ExploreStars

Tyler Bowman - Explore Scientific Customer Service

Hey Brian, let's make sure we are doing this correctly ill provide a document.

Follow the steps exactly:

1) From this page -- https://explorescientificusa.com/pages/android-os-download -- download the Android database onto a Windows machine.

2) Go to where it downloaded, probably the download folder, where you'll find ExploreStars in a zipped file.

3) Click on it ONCE.

4) At the top should see, in pink, Compressed Folder Tools. Click on that -- NOT on Extract.

5) A bit below that, on the right, you'll now see Extract All. Double click it.

6) I suggest you click the browse button so can make the machine download it onto your desktop. Once the location is chosen, click selection.

7) Then click Extract.

The extraction process will start.

Now that it is downloaded:

1) Find the ExploreStars folder on your desktop.

2) Double click it to open it. Inside should be 2 files – the Images folder and the file ExploreStars.sqlite.

If you have not already done so, insert your micro-SD card into the computer slot.

1) Open the micro-SD card. Delete ALL ExloreStars folders that may reside there.

2) Close the micro-SD card.

3) Click and hold on the ExploreStars folder AND DRAG it onto the micro-SD card.

4) Open the micro-SD card to verify the folder is on the FIRST LEVEL of the card.

5) If it is not, Get on the FIRST LEVEL.

6) Eject the card.

On the tablet:

1) If it is running, close the ExploreStars app.

2) Insert the micro-SD card.

3) Turn off the tablet.

4) Turn on the tablet.

5) Launch ExploreStars.

That process should get you up and running.

Now, some devices require you to give permission to let the app access the database. That is different on different operating systems. If that's the case, I need to know exactly what operating system you are running. You can probably Google it and find it yourself.

The most common mistaken I've seen in this process happens in Step No. 4 in the first paragraph: 4) At the top should see, in pink, Compressed Folder Tools. Click on that -- NOT on Extract. The mistake is clicking on Extract under the pink box. Click on the pink box to access the correct Extract All button.

I hope my directions make sense. I typed them as I went through the process on my computer.

-- Hi Wes, as we say over here the plot thickens. First the app/database problem. I understand the need to load the database onto the SD card. I am afraid after several reload attempts from Playstore, the latest app is still not opening the database- I'm getting the (standard?) sqlite flash message indicating the problem. Database path is storage/sdcard/explorestars/image.... two things have sprung to mind, first the latest app settings page indicates  database path as storage/3752-3562/explorestars/.... ie not sdcard. I don't whether that is relevant? Also I haven't used an sdcard USB connector, I don't have one and have had no problems in the past, I drag the unzipped database from my windows 10 pc over to my tablet via the standard tablet USB Cable. Could this be an issue this time round? The database appears complete at around 80megs and the image directories all open correctly...
Secondly, I'm now experiencing mechanical issues with my mount! First off, if I submit an RA/DEC coordinate from the App coordinate page the mount slews correctly, however when I input a second set of coordinates the mount doesn't (re)slew and in fact doesn't park either, it just hangs......
Any advise is, as always, very welcome. Kind regards, Brian

Re: PMC-8 & ASCOM / 1 program at a time #EXOS2 #iEXOS-100

Leigh Caldwell

Robert's answer earlier in the thread is the one to read. Instead of connecting all your programs direct to the mount, you just connect the Hub to the mount. Then all your other programs connect to the Hub.

The Hub in ASCOM has been renamed from POTH (Plain-Old-Telescope-Hub) to "ASCOM Device Hub", so if you find forum posts or blog articles from before 2020, they will probably refer to POTH. Just replace with 'Device Hub' and you will be fine.

Once you have run the ASCOM Device Hub and connected it to the mount, you can then start your other programs. in PHD2 and NINA, when you select which mount you want to connect to, you choose 'Device Hub Telescope' (or something similar - it might be slightly different for each program but hopefully it will be clear which one it is).

The Device Hub can have as many programs connected as you want, and it will pass on the messages to the mount - so that the mount doesn't get confused getting multiple signals from different programs.

Re: PMC-8 & ASCOM / 1 program at a time #EXOS2 #iEXOS-100

Sebastian

Edited

Use Ascom „Hub“ for more than 1 device. You have to configure the pmc8 telescope in the hub then you can choose the hub in Nina telescopes and Phd2.

Re: PMC-8 & ASCOM / 1 program at a time #EXOS2 #iEXOS-100

Andreas

Is this true? I have the same problem that i am not able to connect to multiple programs via Ascom. But i hoped that the solution is a cable with a FTDI Chip. I need a connection to NINA for PlateSolving and to PHD2 for Guiding.

Andreas

Yes Sebastian, however I'm getting started with Ascom as at some point I know I'm going to need to start guiding rather than just tracking, up til now I have just been entering co-ordinates in ES but I am limited o an absolute maximum of 2 minutes exposures if I get a good enough polar alignment, I was hoping to be able to do more and get better signal to noise ratio
I'm beginning to think that this system maybe be a bit too geeky/techy for me and that I might need something a little more user friendly, it would be a shame to jump ship as I'm a glutton for things that are different but the setting up of this is starting to go down an endless rabbit hole LOL
