It's galaxy season, so here are two pictures shot from my backyard in the middle of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA (Bortle 7-8). Details on imaging setup in my signature. Really thrilled with the mount so far and have been learning a ton. In addition to the open hardware and documentation, the encouragement and engagement on this forum was a deciding factor in my purchase. I'm new to astronomy and astrophotography, having picked up the hobbies in May and at Christmas respectively. First, a crop of the Leo Triplet from March 5. 60x2-min lights, 20 darks, no flats. Here's a wide-field in Virgo, framing M58, M59, M60, M89, and M90, along with several other galaxies. I'm a huge fan of the interacting galaxies in the upper right - NGC4567 & NGC4568. 90x2-min lights, 20 darks, 25 flats. Now that the nights are warming up and I've learned the ropes, it's time to get this setup in the car and enjoy the Bortle 2-3 dark skies from our public lands. Can't wait! -- Mount: ES PMC-8 iEXOS-100 Scope: William Optics ZenithStar 61II w/ UniGuide 32mm Cameras: Canon EOS 1100D (Rebel T3), QHY-5-III-462C Software: KStars on Astroberry, DeepSkyStacker and Photoshop

After months , the sky open and I can use the mount again. Now I am using "generic hub" and is working well without any disconnect in all night! So, if you is having any problems with POTH or Device hub, try this.

Somewhere in the forums there is a write up on how to set the mount to accurate polar home. The arrows are not always accurate and there is no encoder to tell the mount when it is homed, it simply takes the position it is in when power on as home. Once you find the exact accurate polar home you can use tape and a marker to make more accurate arrows on the mount, but if the level of the tripod changes so does the exact home position.

Alan:
I think the answer lies with the tripod. Is the tripod level in all axis (x, y, z)? Are the tripod legs fully extended? Is the tripod spreader firmly pressed against all of the tripod legs? Rotating the tripod in the direction of the severe Az adjustment will help. -- Sincerely, Jennifer Shelly AstroPorch, VA Mounts: ES PMC-8 G-11, ES PMC-8 iEXOS-100 Scopes: ES ED127 FCD-100, Askar FRA 400, ES Levy Comet Hunter, ES N208CF, QHY Mini Guide Scope, Solomark F60 Guide Scope Cameras: QHY600M, QHY128C, QHY168C Misc: MoonLite CFL 2.5 / High Res Stepper / V2 Mini Controller, Baader SteelTrack NT / SteelDrive II, Baader UFC, Optolong 2" L-Pro / L-eNhance, QHY CFW3-L, Baader 2” LRGBSHO CCD Imaging Software: NINA, APT, SharpCap Pro Processing Software: PixInsight, Lightroom, Premiere Elements

The new Explorestars is being examined. There was an entirely new set of libraries.
I believe the new Explorestars should run in 8.1. I believe I had it on that before I upgraded to 9 to see what would happen. On my machine it ran fine on 9. But I think there was a report herein that it didn’t on that person’s machine. Too hard to figure out. Try it and see. Developer is working the issue. This old version works on my Samsung tablet running Android 8.1.0 (Oreo).
It would be interesting to know which OS versions need this fix. Since 8.1.0 is now the oldest supported version, it may be all, in which case the new version of the app needs fixing. That raises the question: what platform was used to develop and test the new version. Oh, what a tangled web...

Saddle to mount alignment EXOS 2

Hi,
Just out of curiosity, I have noticed recently that my mount when in the home position seems out, both RA & DEC arrows are aligned but my scope is pointing off to the right by a couple of degrees. Also, the weight bar is not centred along the front leg. This means that when I PA and have Polaris centred with my Polemaster its not centred in the scope I took the scope out of the saddle and placed a long piece of wood in the saddle and locked it in place and sure enough when in the home position the piece of wood is pointing off to the right. Is this normal? if not what might be the solution? I can recenter using the Alt/Az screws but this means that one screw is almost all the way in and the other is hanging on by a thread I conclude this cannot be right. Any help would be most welcome.
