This might be a similar issue that I had reported for beta testing (post #136).


Luiz:

I think I was able to resolve it by reinstalling the old firmware and old ASCOM driver. Then I followed the instructions step by step that were released in the new firmware/driver install package.  I think the most important step that resolved this was deleting the PMC in the ASCOM profile explorer as shown in the instructions before installing the new driver.  I hope this helps.

Luiz:

Open the ascom driver setup.  Under miscellaneous tab tick the loging tick box, called trace log.  Then close.  This turns on time tagged loging for future analysis.  The file will be save under Documents/ascom/logs/... logs by date.  Please remember to note the time when the things was messing up so we can find the correct area in the log..

your message is a bit to vague to figure out what is happening.  


can you please review the questions jerry and I asked you and comment on them so we can maybe see what is happening?

are you using WiFi for ascom.  Sounds like it.  Are you connecting the ascom hub to the pmc8 driver and all other apps to the ascom hub?

when the track on loss of comms is in use the mount will be at park upon boot but will not respond to stellarium.  You need to tick the track box on poth after which the stellarium will work.  This was discovered by someone on the forum and has been true before the upgrade.  If poth has that tick box clear the mount is  it living and apps are likely to think it is parked


there should be no reason to ever use the cm once you put the pmc8 into tcp.   It stays there.   Ascom will communicate to it.  All your apps communicate to the ascom hub only, not the mount.  


Please comment on each of these point so we can help you.  At this point we do not discount any bug report but we need more information to follow up.   For now it does not look like you have a firmware issue but something procedural.

I wrote the note below this section to the ES customer support after sending them the ASCOM dx file and mount profile that reported the errors that I got.  I was able to resolve the problem on my own.  This was after installed the updated firmware you posted Sunday.  The first firmware download did not work for me at all. Of interest the if I enable the run on boot in the Universal firmware installer  the ASCOM hub or poth starts unparked and tracking and then when I went into Stellarium or Carte De Ceil did not work for me. So I left that disabled and everything is working now.   The only oddity is if a leave a program and return to the Ascom hub or poth I have to go back to the configuration manager to get the TCP function with the mount.  Not the end of the world.  Can't say why the beta testers did not see my issue other than I am sure they don't make it a practice to overload their mounts as part their testing.  

 
So think I have got all the problems solved. Having the mount out of balance was part of the problem and likely the start of the problem. I think it generate some sort of time out. This then left ASCOM device or poth looking like it was connected but non responsive. Unless I went to the PMC8 configuration manager which indicated the mount was connected to TCP but not in the first box in lower left of the screen and refound the TCP. After that the mount would connect and as long used either the poth or device hub in the TCP software everything works. If I disconnect from these I looks like I have go back to the config manager before starting another program but they all seem to work. I don't know if this was the same issue with the earlier update but it seems like it is working now. As a side note the explore star software did not demonstrate this behavior even when it was out of balance. Not clear why that would be the case. May be this will help someone else. Thanks for tolerance, new to mounts was using a Dobsonian prior to this for viewing.

Please elaborate again as to the issue you are seeing, and when it appears relative to usage, client programs, etc.

With CdC the problem is solved! I can use the buttons again, after the upgrade (2021.04.13). But the issue continues:

"I was taking photos of a crater in moon and I needed to move constantly manually the DEC and RA in the APT (Astro Photography tool). When I make various moviments in the E or W control, the mount stop to accept more commands and stop the tracking by some seconds. The moviments in N and S still working. After some seconds I can make the moviments correctly, but the mount can stop again."

You said: Please turn on logging in the driver and send a log to us with the time of day the issue occurs noted se we can examine what is going on.
How can I do that?

If your splash screen tells you the version code ES20A01 Release 2021.04.13, then the issue we fixed is fixed. Yours might be something different, perhaps with your clients?

I have not but I’ll definitely look into it. I believe this was my first target with that filter. Personally I like the l- enhance better with color cameras in darker skies than the l extreme.

Did you try SIRiL for color calibration? It works well for broadband images and I was hoping I could use it for narrowband too.

Try this:

1.  Turn on continuous track with loss of comms.  This will ensure the mount does not stop.  Please turn on logging in the driver and send a log to us with the time of day the issue occurs noted se we can examine what is going on.
2.  Take a video that sows the PMC8 lights while the issue is happening.
3.  See if Explorestars will run the mount with the LRDU buttons.

Anyone else use CdC LRDU buttons to move the mount?

Hi all,

today I’ve also done some photos from the sun. Only with a normal telesope, not in H-alpha. as Ian did.

But I can confirm what Ian said in his post, the iExos is very easy to use in this case. 

My pictures are not very well processed, but the resemblance of the sunspot structure is visible.

I remember my first try some month ago during bad wether conditions. I was not sure if the sunspots (small ones) are really there - maybe my CCD was dirty? So I compared it with https://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/

          something different.  The iEXOS-100 makes an excellent mount to support my Lunt Double- Stack  H-alpha telescope.
Levelled tripod and, with correct latitude, aligned approximately due North.  Simple slew to Sun and only a small adjustment to North alignment brought the Sun's image onto the camera sensor. Tracking superb and the N/S/E/W slow slewing worked perfectly to centre the Sun's image. Mount's performance could not have been better.  Telescope control and image capture in the hood.   2,000 frames aligned and stacked in AutoStakkert! and processed in Photoshop.

The Sun is just waking up from a big sleep and the surface is now showing some interesting features.  It is very hard to get a totally uniform brightness full solar disk but this has worked reasonably well.
