Hi Wes, are you saying collimation is necessary? If so can you explain how this is done please? I have tried by loosening and tightening the three little crosshead screws but apart from some minor movement in a rather random direction, gave up after about an hour of trying. There was no way I was ever going to achieve the objective of ensuring a centralised target remained so when turning the left right iEXOS 100 movement through 180degrees......
I know you to be a very knowledgeable and clever fella, I hope you can enlighten me! Many thanks Wes, Brian

Re: M24
Edwin:
Flats can be done the next day as long as you leave your focuser and lens untouched. If your focus changed throughout the night it does not matter as long as +/- change was minimal. You can use something like an iPad with a white screen placed on the dew shield when the telescope is pointing straight up. My ES refractor’s dew shield tends to walk it’s way down on with the weight of an iPad, so I use a large rubber band directly behind the dew shield to keep it from moving. You can sometimes get away with using a set of flats multiple times as long as any dust on the lens an/or camera sensor has not moved. #iexos-100 with Starry Night / Mac OS
#iEXOS-100
Mirko Gude
Hi,
I've got a question about the IEXOS 100 with Starry Night Pro 8. Did anyone use this combination with a Mac ? I know how to change from UDP/IP to TCP/IP protocols with command line (I use the build in Terminal with netcat instead of Packet Sender). But I'am not sure If I have to change the settings also to serial connection (USB Cable). If I do this, will it work with Starry Night? I was successful with IEXOS 100 and KStars (with INDI), in this case it is only necessary to change form UDP/IP to TCP/IP protocols. And because I don't have a windows machine I'am little bit afraid, that it could be possible, that I could not change the settings back from USB cable to wireless without the windows programs. So any experiences are welcome ;-) Thanks and best Regards, Mirko

Todd Be assured the issues you are having are not related to the iexos. Some have indeed found the new ascom version is bugged. With POTH in ascom 6.4 I have had occasional POTH crashes. But these are seldom and I don’t think it has happened once I replaced my windows tablet with a PC. Hasn’t happened with my bootcamped Mac mini. We’d

Toddb,
Are you using ASCOM 6.5? If so try uninstalling and installing 6.4 SP 1. ASCOM Freezing iEXOS 100 PMC-Eight
ToddB
I've had this issue since day 1. ASCOM constantly freezes. I have installed the latest ASCOM and have all updated drivers. I wiped my hard drive clean a few times, and I even went out and bought a brand new computer. Nothing works. Whether I'm using Carte du Ciel, or using ASCOM Device Hub directly, the issue persists.
Is this an issue inherent with ASCOM and the iEXOS 100 PMC-Eight? Are there setting I need to change?

Hi All,
Here's an annotated picture of my wiring harness. I have a Losmandy D type dovetail on my SCT, so there's a Farpoint adapter that I have on the old saddle. All of my wires meet at the point of the old saddle screw, which has been replaced with a longer bolt so I can tie all of my cables to it. As far as wind, if I'm at a short focal length (500mm or less) I don't have any issues with winds up to 7mph. I usually don't go out if the wind is higher than that, so I'm not sure at what point I would have issues. At long focal lengths (2000mm +), I can see the slightest breeze, but I'm guessing that's going to happen with any mount. -- Bill Mounts: EXOS II PMC-Eight, LXD75 Cameras: ZWO ASI294MCPro, ASI385

I have always thought that more mass on the load would be better. Yes you will during slew experience more tortional twisting of compliant shafts etc. but the increase in mass will decrease resonant frequencies. In a spring mass system the period is proportional to the square root of the mass. So one lowers the frequency as one increases the mass. I wonder if guiding happens better. External disturbances might also have less influence, even wind if the mass goes up faster than the sail area. When we are guiding we are tracking along at a nice pace and issuing slight corrections. Unfortunately the response of mount will be longer given greater mass... pesky time constants to final value gonna be proportional to the inverse natural frequency which higher mass decreases thereby increasing response time. But if these times correspond to intervals lots smaller than the guide interval the advantage more mass gives for resistance to disturbances might just be a positive overall. Wes
