If Jerry's steps don't work, maybe I can connect to your machine tomorrow and take a look at it.  Sometimes a second set of eyes is all it takes.

Great idea!
I found that plastic tool boxes and fishing lure boxes also work great.  $2 to $3 at Harbor Freight and this welding cart to hold all the equipment too for $45 on sale.  I just added foam padding to keep everything in place.  For the PMC8 I kept the original foam insert from the box it came in and cut it to fit the tool box.

Any luck?

Re: Can I force a pier flip after slewing to a target?

I have had my G11/PMC-8 for about 2 weeks, and it is my 1st mount, so I am playing in the dark.

Background:
I have had issues with wifi dropping while using it outside, but it seems to work fine (for 5+ hours) in my basement in my dummy testing.  I have had ExploreStars shut down on its own, but the laptop still being connected to the PMC-8 wifi (this has happened with 2 separate computers), and I have had ExploreStars stay open, but the laptop disconnect from wifi (and stop tracking).
I have gotten ASCOM Poth to work (wifi, have not tried physical serial) and slew/track with CdC for very long periods of time (unattended) in my basement sessions as well.

I have noticed a couple of things with respect to meridian flips:
1) ExploreStars (on M1) automatically did a meridian flip, and it occurred very soon after 180deg
2) CdC/Poth did NOT do an automatic meridian flip
    a) a few days ago  (on M1) shortly after 180deg, Poth disconnected the mount, and gave an error (forget      what???)
    b) today, I am trying the same thing (on Betelguese; M1 had just past 180deg), starting slightly East and trackingm and Poth is continuing tracking (without flip) at 229deg and counting, as I write

It would be great for the PMC-8 driver to have a user-set limit to enable the mount to go xxDeg past meridian (or pre-flip pre-meridian) and force flip at that point, and have this work whether it is controlled by ExploreStars, CdC, SGP, APT, Poth, etc ...

Hi Steve,

Sorry that you are having problems. As Chris mentioned physically deleting the file is usually the quickest way to make sure the one you are installing shows up correctly. The file you need to delete is:

ASCOM.ES_PMC8.Telescope.dll

 located at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ASCOM\Telescope

You may have already figured that out. Once you delete that file then it should update correctly.

Here is what I did:
1. deleted my existnig PMC-8 driver
2. Verified it was not an option in POTH
2.5  Closed POTH all the way
3. Downloaded the driver from the link you gave me
4. Ran it, chose not to install source files
5. Let it open the programmers guide when it was done
6. Opened POTH

After that, it was there again as an option in POTH.

It still sounds, to me, like some anti-virus is blocking it.  Did you make sure to turn them off?  At exactly which point does the install go away?  Right after you start it?

Hi Chris

Here is the link I'm using

and then I goto

I check to make sure it is deleted.  after I uninstall it from my machine it is no longer listed within ASCOM with I'm in POTH or any other client.  I also re-booted my machine.

I'm running windows 10.   I know it works because on another computer it works fine.

Re: ASCOM driver not upgrading

First I would make sure it is really deleted.  Delete it and then see if it shows up in POTH.  If it does, there is clearly an issue.  I've seen that happen before.  Not with the PMC-8 driver, mainly ones I wrote myself.  Sometimes they just don't get deleted.

Re: ASCOM driver not upgrading

Are you using the latest driver on the website?  Send me a link to the one you are using, just to make sure I get the correct one, and I'll see what it does on my system.

Which OS are you using?
Offhand, I would suggest right clicking on it and running it as Administrator.  It might be some virus checker blocking it

ASCOM driver not upgrading

Steve Mallia

Has anyone run into a problem with upgrading the older ASCOM driver to the latest version?

On one of my computers it will not updated.  When I run the ES_PMC8_SETUP.EXE file it starts the process, says it will uninstall the previous version and all appears good.

When I goto POTH setup and try to setup the Properties I still get the old driver options.  I dont get hte pulse guide setup tab.

I've tried uninstall and re-installing the driver, ASCOM, and even went through the registry and took out all mention of PMC8.  I even ran the setup file as an Administrator.

Still the same problem

Any suggestions?

Chris,

Very interesting find!   That's a useful-looking little case - I would never have thought to look under humidors for such a thing.

FWIW, now that I know to look, an Amazon query on "Cigar Humidor Travel Case" brings up a long list, in various sizes.

Thanks!

What brand of lubricant would you recommend?

Re: RA Stiction

I just installed the wavy washer.  It makes a BIG difference.  The RA moves much more freely when disengaged.  It isn't 100% free, but very good.

I'll do a little searching and see if people recommending any grease on the new washer.  The potential problem would be that it migrates to the plates and then the RA slips, even when tightened down.

For $10, it is probably the best mount upgrade I've ever done.  It took 5 minutes and no tools.

Between ES and Losmandy, I love this thing.

BTW - I shot video of most of the procedure and the change.  I'll try to edit it (been a long time since I've done that) and get it up for people to see.

PMC-8 Case

From the very offbeat category...

I've been meaning to pick up something pelican-like to store the actual PMC-8 and its cables in ever since I received it.

Well, yesterday I was in the humidor section of my preferred wine shop when I noticed they had pelican-like cases for cigars.  Who knew?

Perfect size. Nice and sturdy. Has an O-ring and everything. $25!

No more trying to cram the cables and PMC-8 back into the original box!

Just a small tip...

It's definitely ASCOM related, not me doing something silly in TSX.  Not necessarily an error, just something I'm not sure I understand.
I posted an update on CN.

Good catch

Re: RA Stiction

FYI -

I think the $7.50 part you’re referring to, CKSW, is the RA clutch knob spring washer, not the larger RA spring washer.

It’s not listed on their website and I had to call and order it.  They were very helpful, had them in stock, and the cost was $10.00 shipped via first class mail.

Turns out, there is an easy fix for it.  It's about $7.50 on Losmandy's site.

Just a tip.

I'm waiting for mine. I'll let you know how it works
