Sounds interesting.  I'm pretty sure there are versions of remote desktop for android and Mac.  I'm not sure about iOS.  I've also used remote desktop from android. it seemed to work well.

Re: Question from prospective buyer: No hand paddle

Hi,
Here is how I got my xbox controller to work with ascompad.  It was a new machine so I had to install everything

1. Installed ascom 6.4
2. Installed ascompad.  (This took some time, sorry for the delay, because SourceForge seems to be flaky these days.  It is down completely right now but I found a mirror)
4. connected the poth to the pmc-8
5. Connected ascompad to the poth

From there, the left joystick controlled the ra/dec without a problem. Howver, as has been mentioned, It does look like ascompad has to have the focus. I.e be the "active" window.  I'm going to look into that but don't have high hopes.

Does that help at all?  If not, let me know which step is causing problems.

Jennifer,

I do not recall doing any unusual (but I have VERY little experience with this).

I believe I downloaded some software that Jerry had uploaded to the files section.  I believe there maybe some old and newer drivers there.

After launching POTH, I have to launch ASCOMPAD.  You also have to do some setup with ASCOMPAD to assign the buttons the way you want.  Jerry also had a thread on this.  You can see the thread that I had to see how I assigned the buttons on my XBox controller.  You will have to have XBox drivers working, but I think that was automatic with Win10.

Everything has worked fine for me, EXCEPT  ASCOMPAD only works if its window is visible and the active window.  It is supposed to work when hidden, but it never has for me.

I talked to ES about getting some info regarding adjusting my 2" Crayford focuser, and they recommending that I ship it to ES for adjustment (they RMA'd with prepaid shipping!) , so I sent my ED102CF back.  They got it yesterday.

Hopefully, I will get it back soon, with the focuser properly aligned and the slight lens optic pinch fixed.

It was definitely "no-fuss" when talking with ES customer service.  I have only heard of great things regarding ES customer service from MANY sources (customers and dealers).

The results of this repair will definitely have an impact on decision on my next scope; probably a ~5" APO with better glass and better focuser.  I do not think the ED102CF (with FCD1 glass) is good enough optically to add a $$$ focuser.

Mark - I am trying to get ASCOMPAD connected to POTH and am having issues with getting it connected. Was there something specific you had to do to get connected to POTH? If you would be so kind to let me know exactly what you did I would greatly appreciate it.

Nifty little app - SpaceDesk

Jennifer Shelly

Hello all.  I wanted to share a nifty little app called SpaceDesk that enables an Android or iPad to mirror a PC monitor.  I think this is useful for focusing in Live View  The best part is that it is completely free,  I have tested it on a Windows 10 Pro 64 bit PC and a Sony Xperia Z Android tablet and it works flawlessly.  There is an option to allow control of the PC via the tablet.   Here is the website link if you are interested.  https://www.spacedesk.net/

I am using a Dell Rugged Extreme Tablet.  It can be used in the cold/hot temperatures and is waterproof.

Hi Everyone,  I had a chance to check out the forum this evening. As far as using EQMOD, it is only for Synta mounts (SkyWatcher and Orion EQ6 and Atlas for example). My first mount back in 2009 was a SkyWatcher EQ6 Pro mount and I used EQMOD for several years with that mount. It is an excellent ASCOM driver and hub (server) that has had a long development history.

The EQMOD driver only uses the Synta command language, it does not know anything about the Explore Scientific PMC-Eight command language. The ASOMPAD program is an ASCOM Client program that can be used with any ASCOM driver. ASCOMPAD was developed in conjunction with the EQMOD driver and that functionality is integrated in the EQMOD driver.

So, to use the ASCOMPAD Client program along with other ASCOM clients you need to connect the clients to the POTH driver hub (server) with the POTH connected to the PMC-Eight ASCOM Driver.

I hope that makes sense!

That's fine. Just go ahead and accept it.  It's just because Win10 doesn't know what it is.

If you just put the cursor over the file name, they all start with the same domain https://xa.yimg.com
I get a warning on each one when I try to download, so the only option is to accept the risk and continue.

On my home pc, windows 10

Hi,
Welcome to the group.
Do you remember the message and which file you were downloading?  Also, which OS are you using?

xa.yimg.com

Hi Folks,

New owner, and new to this group.

Was attempting to download from the files section, but got a warning popup regarding downloading from the xa.yimg.com domain. I assume this is the default storage for Yahoo? I looked through older posts but did not see anything related to this.

Cheers!

John

Thanks.  I appreciate it.

I was thinking about this, and conceptually, EQMOD might work if you’re connecting to a POTH.  I’m rolling this around in my head right now, so it’s all just speculation.  I think I still have everything installed on my Compute Stick for EQMOD, and I’ll try to test it when I get home tonight.

Controlling a PMC8 with EQMOD is an interesting idea.  I’ll keep you posted.

New Windows Tablet

There seems to be a lot of discussion about tablets, so I just thought I would let everyone know that MS just announced a new, smaller Surface Tablet.  It's 10" and  runs Windows (obviously)

I've used other models of Surfaces for astro and have had good look with them.
