Re: Request Information about your PMC-Eight system and support rendered

Mark,

I would test it with different tablet or laptop to see if the problem persists. Might be an issue with wifi module of your pmc8.
I controlled my exos-2/pmc8 with some win10 no-name table that I bought for 60$, and it runs everything just fine.

I sympathise with you, I really am losing interest reading these posts, perhaps setting up a dedicated yahoo group for Losmandy/Exos-2 mounts might be more useful.

I only recieved my G11/PMC-8 a week ago, and it is my 1st mount.  I had 4 straight clear nights, and the system worked the 1st 3 nights, but on the 4th the wifi disconnected several times.  This was NOT the tablet going to sleep; in one case I was scrolling through some ExploreStars GoTo targets and the tablet drops the PMC-8 wifi and changes to my houses wifi.  After the wifi drop I try to reconnect, using the Win10 Network Connection, and in 2 of the 3 times it says the PMC-8 Network is Unavailable.  The tablet is a Dell Venue11 Pro 7140 running Win10 w/ 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and dual Intel Core M-5Y71.

I have not yet successfully got ASCOM to run.  I have loaded the drivers.  The process seems to be convoluted and confusing.  I have used computers all my professional life (now retired) as a power user to analyze and solve problems, but I am NOT a "networking specialist".  It seems to me that the ASCOM install process (and the Yahoo group) is not oriented to typical computer users, but to those "networking specialist".

Hi Jerry-

The screen does say 'please wait'-we've been waiting for almost 10 minutes (with a hard connection).

Something seems to not be quite right?

Hi clchev,

Here are the instructions from the main download webpage here:

Make sure you unzip the database file into your windows account Pictures directory as shown below.

alt Click Here to get the Celestial Database for Windows 10

Loading the 2 different software packages is really simple. First, download the ExploreStars App by clicking the link above and install it on your Windows based PC or tablet. Then download the Celestial Database by clicking the link above and after the download is complete, unzip that file. You will find a folder called ExploreStarsComplete and drag that folder into your "Pictures" folder on your Windows based PC or tablet. Launch the ExploreStars App on your device and give the device a minute or two to upload the Celestial Database. The tablet may say Data Missing. If that occurs, click the "AppBar" button and select the "Load Extra Stars" button. Wait a minute or two (or restart the software) and the tablet should be good to go.

Help-with PMC Eight-Data Files Missing'

clchev@...

ExploreStars is open and it says 'Data Files Missing'

I followed directions-not sure what I am missing

Go to windows app store-downloaded the program and opened it up

Downloaded the drivers...set the correct date, longitude, latitude, GPS coordinates and is connected to PMC 8.

The program says 'Data Files Missing' but I can't get the data files.

Do I need the data files to move the telescope?

Any ideas for what I'm doing wrong is welcome

Re: D or V series saddle for EXOS2 ?

I can't speak for the exos-2, but always use Losmandy, also called D plate, if you have an option.
ADM is great, but check around a bit for cheaper

D or V series saddle for EXOS2 ?

Wes Mcdonald

Hi guys.  Anyone put a good clamping saddle on their EXOS2?  Can you recommend one?  The thing that comes with the mount is a pain to use and it is tearing up by dovetail plate.  Maybe something along these lines from ADM - DUAL-HH- DUAL Series Saddle

thanks,

Wes.

Hi Chris,

Yes, that is a simple change. I will look at doing the actual switch in the driver and then post that on our website. I will probably post it to the Yahoo group for people to test also.

Thanks

Hi,

Jerry - I have a few days off, I'll see if I can get around to it.  If not, maybe a simple change to the wording, to make it clear that it is only telling the driver which one to use, would be helpful.
   Maybe something like:
Driver will listen for PMC-8 on:    X Wifi     X Serial

Where the Xs are radio buttons.
    Just a thought.

Chris
