#iEXOS-100 Manual slew speed with INDI #iEXOS-100

Ming

Finally got some time to update the mount firmware to the latest version 20A1 and INDI to 1.9.0 yesterday.

One thing I noticed while doing a quick test was that the max manual slew speed was still very slow. I was hoping the new firmware and the latest INDI driver might have sorted this out. Is this something that is being looked into by the developers?

The Indi driver is written and maintained by others.  I know the driver is being revised to improve it .  Among other things the speeds are being addressed.  I believe incorporating those changes is being discussed.

Karl has done sterling work on an Indi fork, he has updated to deal with slew speeds in the driver - see the discussion topic linked here: https://espmc-eight.groups.io/g/DEV/message/152

Thanks saclements.

I've read that topic you linked and the updates Karl has been making look quite promising. Since I can't post in that topic, I'll ask here. I remember I've read here or maybe in the INDI forum that one of the reasons why there was no higher speed available for manual slew in the PMC8 driver was to protect the stepper motors from sudden surge of currents. When slewing in Explorestars app, the current gets gradually increased/decreased and I could hear the motors speed up and slow down proportionally. Does Karl's modification take this into account?

Karl's modification includes ramping of the speeds. I have done some testing and it seems to behave as expected.
You should subscribe to the PMC-Eight DEVelopment subgroup and post your query in the topic. There are far more informed folks than me that can answer you queries.
Karl's fork is on GitHub here: https://github.com/karlrees/indi you can test it out. Karl is very responsive to responding to any issues found.

I can confirm Karl's modification which is now included in the latest INDI 1.9.2 supports the proper high speed manual slew with the latest firmware.

Thank you very much to these developers for their hard work.
